Extraordinary Nurse Recognized at Sidney Health Center
November 19, 2025

Sidney Health Center is proud to announce that Lisa Scheetz, RN, has been honored with The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses, a national recognition program that celebrates the skillful and compassionate care nurses provide every day.

The recent award ceremony recognized eleven exceptional nurses who were nominated by patients and family members for their commitment to outstanding patient care. The nominees included Tracy Denowh, Malisa Reed, Lisa Sheetz, Bailee Messerly, Marcia Proulx, Emmarie Koppinger, Ceara Miske, Deb Ryan, Micayla Miske, Katherine King and Andee Turner.

Lisa’s nomination highlights her dedication and compassion for residents in Extended Care. A colleague shared how Lisa consistently goes above and beyond, especially when caring for residents with limited mobility or cognitive challenges. One resident needed extra support with his brace and exercises, and despite her busy schedule, Lisa learned his needs and clearly communicated them to the nursing team, ensuring the best care. Her nominator emphasized her excellent communication, commitment to resident safety, and the positive attitude she brings to the workplace.

Lisa joined Sidney Health Center’s Extended Care team in 2023. She began her healthcare career as a CNA in 2018, became an LPN in 2022, and earned her RN in 2023. She is passionate about caring for the elderly and supporting their families. In her current role, she oversees resident care, administers medications, assists CNAs, communicates with families, and fosters a safe, supportive environment. She is also pursuing wound care certification to further enhance resident outcomes.

Reflecting on receiving the DAISY Award, Lisa shared that it has been deeply meaningful, especially as a newer nurse. She expressed pride in the care she provides and appreciation for the recognition from colleagues and residents’ families. She noted that the award reinforces that she is making a positive difference every day—both for residents and as a role model to her fellow staff.

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at age 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disease. The compassionate care Patrick and his family received from nurses during his illness inspired the creation of the DAISY Award. (DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.)

Nurses can be nominated by patients, families, or colleagues. At Sidney Health Center, DAISY Award recipients are selected by a dedicated committee and honored in a special ceremony twice a year. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, created by artists from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

Sidney Health Center’s nursing staff—comprising advanced practice providers, registered nurses, and LPNs—represents 20% of the organization’s workforce, providing compassionate care across all service areas.
