Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support training held for First Responders
The Richland County Ambulance service held a Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support training for its Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) this past weekend. The exercise included hands-on training, such as simulating large scale car accidents, mass casualty incidents, and working with SIM-MT for burn victim simulation training. This type of training is useful for preparing emergency responders to handle a variety of trauma situations effectively and can help EMTs build the skills and confidence needed to respond to emergencies with speed and accuracy.
More than 15 individuals were able to participate in the training, indicating a strong commitment to ensuring that EMTs in the Richland County Ambulance service are well-equipped to handle any trauma situation they may encounter.
The training involved collaboration with Boy Scout Troop 141 and families who participated as patients and victims, and Sidney Public Schools as they allow for the use of the bus and facilities. We are thankful for their willingness to help build strong and effective emergency response systems.
The Richland County Ambulance Service is an integral part of Sidney Health Center's emergency services. Nationally Registered EMTs provide services throughout Richland County with ambulances in Fairview, Lambert, Savage and Sidney. The service is county-owned with operations administrated by Sidney Health Center.

The Richland County Ambulance Service recently completed an EMT class, but plan to hold another class starting November 2023. The course includes classroom participation and offers hands-on skills stations that work to develop teamwork skills and prepare students for real life emergency situations. Upon completion of the course, students then take a test administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians to receive certification, obtain state licensure, and officially join an ambulance service.
Being an EMT is not the only way to be prepared for an emergency situation. CPR and AED training can be especially valuable in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, which can occur at any time and often without warning. By learning how to perform CPR and use an AED, community members can significantly improve the chances of survival for someone experiencing cardiac arrest.
Similarly, first aid training such as "Stop the Bleed" can be critical in situations where someone is bleeding heavily and requires immediate attention. By learning how to recognize and respond to these types of situations, community members can potentially prevent further injury or even save a life.
